Abstract

Gastroenteritis is an inflammation that occurs in the gastrointestinal system or digestive tract. However, it is now more commonly known as diarrhea. Infants and children are in the category that often experience gastroenteritis and if not treated can cause complications i.e. risk of hyperthermia, hypokalemia, hyponatremia, hypovolemic shock, and metabolic acidosis, even death. This study is aimed to obtain an idea on care to clients experiencing hyperthermia with gastroenteritis at Budi Lestari Hospital Bekasi. Study applied qualitative descriptive case study with intervention approach. Participants in this case were 2 clients, their families & 1 ward nurse. Study subjects were medical diagnosis of gastroenteritis with hyperthermic nursing problems clients. Based on study data, was found nursing diagnosis of risk of inadequate fluid volume related to excessive output, nutrition deficit related to inadequate intake and hyperthermia related to disease process. Planning covered determining priority nursing issues i.e. hyperthermia based on the theory of hierarchy of human needs according to Maslow. The objective and criteria of the results ate compiled based on SMART (specific), Measurable (can be measured), Achievable (can be achieved), Realistic (definite) and Time (time limit). Achievements of objective was carried out 3X24 hours to each nursing diagnosis. Evaluation data resulted in hyperthermia nursing issues resolved.
