Abstract

Diarrheal disease is an environmentally based disease caused by infection with microorganisms including bacteria, viruses, parasites, protozoa, and transmission by fecal-oral route. Every year diarrhea causes approximately 688 million people sick and 499,000 deaths worldwide occur in children under 5 years. This scientific paper research design is a qualitative descriptive study without direct intervention to patients with a literature study approach. Due to the situation during the pandemic, researchers could not meet directly with patients. This research was conducted in the literature by taking data from a case study in 2019. The results showed that the client experienced nausea (+), vomited 3 times a day, green, diarrhea (+) 5 times a day, fever (-), cough (-), runny nose ( -). Based on the results of the assessment, the client experienced the main problem in nutritional deficits less than the body's needs with a medical diagnosis of diarrhea. The interventions are based on the existing literature, the implementation is given to overcome the problem of nutritional imbalance less than the body's needs, namely weighing, observing vital signs, giving low or lactose-free milk as dietary therapy to improve nutrition. Evaluation is not carried out because the author does not implement it directly to the client so that the evaluation section only provides an overview of the evaluation that can be achieved by the client which refers to the outcome criteria. The results of research based on journals show that there are differences in nutrition in children before and after being given low or lactose-free milk feeding with a value of p = 0.794> ∠= 0.05. Nurses to further enhance evidence based self-action to help improve nutrition of clients with diarrhea.
