Integration Therapy of Acupuncture and Medical Medicine for Stroke Attack Cases

Abstract
Introduction: A stroke is an emergency situation that can cause brain cells to die in just a matter of minutes, so that the part of the body controlled by the damaged part of the brain will lose its function. Medical therapy has been less successful in preventing this emergency problem, so complementary therapy is needed. Purpose: This study aims to report a case of first stroke with hypertension and its condition was successfully improved using medical treatment and acupuncture based on TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) diagnosis. Methods: This study is a qualitative study of case reports of stroke treated in our practice. The therapy provided is in the form of medical treatment and acupuncture based on the diagnosis of TCM syndrome. Assessment of the results of therapy is based on the patient's clinical condition and the results of blood pressure checks performed on the patient at his home during a stroke. Results: The case of an adult woman, aged 52 years who had her first stroke with paralysis on the right side of the body from a sluggish face, hands could not be moved, body stiff, right leg could not be lifted and after measuring her blood pressure was 180/ 90 mmHg, where previously these patients tended to have low blood pressure around 90/60mmHg. The diagnosis of TCM is liver qi and xue deficiency. After being treated with acupuncture and medical therapy at the time of the incident, slowly within 15 minutes the sluggish face improved, the hands and feet could be moved. Complaints of stiffness and a feeling of heaviness on the right side of the body subsided, blood pressure dropped to 120/80mmHg. Conclusion: Stroke attacks can be corrected using a combination of appropriate medical therapy and acupuncture therapy based on a proper TCM diagnosis.
