Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic condition in which the blood pressure in the artery wall (vascular net) increased. Results Health Research in 2013 showed that people with hypertension are aged over 18 years to reach 25.8% of the total population Indonesia.Penelitian aims to determine the relationship between the characteristics of respondents (age, gender, education level, occupation, residence area, weight) with hypertension. Sample selection is done purposively. Respondents are pre-elderly and elderly residents in the city of Bintuhan District of South Kaur. The results showed a significant relationship between age and hypertension (p value 0.004) and the OR of 3,439. This means that at the elderly age the chances of developing hypertension 3.5 times compared with the pre elderly age. In addition there was a significant relationship between the level of education with hypertension (p value 0.016) and the OR of 0,270, which means the higher the education level, the lower the risk of developing hypertension.
