Review of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Research in Hospital Radiology

Abstract

Radiology installation services are an integral part of medical support services in hospitals that provide diagnostic services. The use of ionizing and non-ionizing radiation is deemed to need special attention because radiology services have a very large role in supporting the diagnosis of a disease. Occupational safety in radiology has risks, both directly and indirectly, these risks can occur if negligence and other causes are beyond human capabilities. This study aims to summarize the results of research related to OHS in radiology (diagnostic and interventional). This study reviews 10 research journals on OHS in the Radiology section of the Hospital, published from 2013 to 2021. The results discussed are grouped on research topics. There are three major topics, namely supervision, human resources and the impact of radiation associated with the use of PPE. The results presented are a table of journal characteristics and a summary table of research results. There are 2 articles each year published in 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018. While those published in 2020 and 2021 each have one article. Of the 10 articles, eight articles discuss OHS management, one article discusses the impact of radiation and one article discusses pocket dosimetry (as PPE). There is only one study which states that the application of K3 in radiology services is of quality. The rest consider that the application of K3 in the radiology department is still lacking. Two articles discuss the limitations of human resources, namely the lack of medical physicists and administrative staff, one discusses the lack of training and the lack of human resources. Supervision there are four articles that discuss it. Meanwhile, one article discusses the impact of radiation on workers.
